The United States has approved the possible sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles to Ukraine in a deal worth approximately $2.1 billion. According to Al Jazeera on October 31, the agreement represents one of Washington's most significant defensive arms packages for Kyiv during President Donald Trump's second administration. However, two people familiar with the decision indicated that the missiles have not yet been manufactured and may not be delivered until the early 2030s. The purchase will be financed through contributions from Canada, Germany and Norway, alongside European Union-supported funding. The announcement comes as Russia intensifies missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian energy facilities and civilian infrastructure. Delays in American interceptor deliveries have already caused tensions between Washington and Kyiv. The agreement highlights Ukraine's continuing dependence on Western air defence systems and the growing pressure on US defence manufacturers to expand production capacity./ Al Jazeera
